Why did you get a bird if you can't afford a vet? Sorry to sound rude, but it's very irresponsible on your part. Take your bird to the vet, this is serious. There may be internal damage, infection, any number of things. Birds hide their pain really well until it's too late. Take him to the vet, a lot of vets will allow you to make monthly payments, and some will even work around your budget. It should be an avian vet, but if one isn't available a normal vet may work if they consult an avian vet about treatment.
When we take in a pet we are responsible for their well being. There have been times where I couldn't afford vet treatment for my pets, but I got them the treatment and deprived myself of a few things. Don't take in a living, sentient being if you can't afford their care.
I hope you do the right thing, this little guy is counting on you.
