Camelot Macaw

I own a Camelot Macaw. He is male and about 15 months old. For the last two days he has been making a "honk" sound (like a car horn) every 15 - 20 minutes. It sounds like he is clearing is throat, possibly? He seems fine otherwise. Is this something I should be concerned about? Also, lately he has been fluffing his feathers and slowly bobbing his head up and down at me when he first sees me. What does that mean? Any advice is appreciated! Thank you!

I wish that I could be of assistance, but there is not enough info for me. I will say that when in doubt a visit to the vet is your best bet.

Agree with Wolf... not enough info, and if you're really concerned a trip to an Avian Vet is always the safest bet, BUT I do know Macaws make a honking sound when trying to vocalize. The ruffling of the feathers could be nothing, but what is the temperature in the room that your bird is in? Your bird could be cold and is trying to tell you so.

He has been "Honking" for the last couple of days...he is doing it less often now. It is one loud "honk" every once in awhile. Sounds like a car horn. He never did this before.
I was hoping that a fellow Macaw owner could tell me if this noise is normal. He seems healthy otherwise. No other symptoms of illness. He is playing, eating and climbing around his play gym. Every once in a while he makes a loud "HONK" noise. I don't really want to stress him out by taking him to a vet unless this noise is a symptom of illness. I will call the vet and ask if it warrants a visit if he continues to "honk".

I'm told the fluffing of his feathers and bobbing of his head is a sign that he is hungry?? He was handfed by the breeder. But I don't see him do it very often. He has plenty of food in his dishes so I wanted to see if anyone is familiar with that posturing??

How old is he? If he's young he still might be begging from you for food.

Try a search on the forums, its up to the right ! I know Ive answered this question a lot of times, so you should be able to find it easily!

He is about 15-16 months old. I think he might be asking for food. That is what I read. But he doesn't do it often and he always has pellets, nuts and seeds in his bowls.

I figured out how to find avatar upload...I'm assuming that is how to upload a photo BUT it ALWAYS says the photos are too big. Frustrating!!

YEAH!!! Got the picture on, finally!! That's my Ponyo! Happy to report ...he's not "honking" anymore...
