I notice you were worried about the cost of a vet. Let me tell you what we do here, it works out really well.
We have been going to the same vet for approx 15 or so years, in the beginning we had a situation that cost us quite a lot of money. I decided that I didn't want to get caught out like that again.
So I had a talk to the vet and asked if I could make monthly payments into their bank account, of course he was happy for us to do it.
It has come in really handy over the years, because it is automatically taken out of our account we don't really miss it and it is surprising at how fast it all adds up. If we need to get treatment for our animals we know that we are covered and in the event it is really expensive and we don't have it all covered, the vet is more than happy to let us pay the rest off because he trusts us and knows that the money comes in every month.
There are Pet Insurance companies out there as well, but I am a little skeptical, because they like to take your money, but are reluctant to payout when you need it and even when they do the amounts are restricted.
