Eclectus Parrot Feedings

Postby GreenWing » Sat Dec 21, 2013 6:32 pm

Hey, everyone! I don't have an Ekkie myself (if I were to GET another parrot, it would be an Ekkie, though!) and I am sure those on the forum, such as Sidech will hopefully add their two cents as Ekkie owners. But anyway, I picked up a flier on Eclectus Parrot Feedings and thought to share it for informational purposes. Ekkie owners, please add your two cents to this list and share any corrections, additional info. Also, I am sure it's obvious, but please make sure fruits and veggies are organic.

Very good list ! I would add just about any dark vegetable to it. Peppers of all kind (and pepper seeds), sweet or very hot, squash, snow peas, green and yellow beans, etc.

The best fruits to give are the berry family. Pomegranates are an international favorite ! I've never heard of an Ekkie that didn't go crazy for pomegrenates !

Also, they need a bit of seed, around 2-3 table spoons per day. Canari seeds are great, you buy them without any added vitamins. Oh, and 1 almond a day.

Sprouts are a must and they can be given everyday. Overall, about 70% sprouts and veggies, 20% fruits and 10% seeds and others.

Don't have much else to add, this is very good.

No human cereal! Not for an ekkie or any other bird, they are LOADED with iron, something humans need but not birds.
