My 11 year old male cockatiel has not been pooping all afternoon, and possibly all day
Since I cleaned his cage today- about 7 hours ago, I haven't seen a single poop. There is urine(clear), and if there is any urates, it isn't visible because the paper I use in his cage is white (but now having him out of the cage, and peeing once, there are normal white urates). I had a friend over so I wasn't paying attention to his behaviour - but now I've noticed he is also straining when trying to poop. I haven't noticed if he's been eating, but I don't think he has much today. He was perched at the top of his cage, probably trying to sleep, or playing at the bottom, from all I've seen during my friend's visit. I noticed him eating and drinking normally now that my friend left.
About thirty minutes after my friend left, I've had him out. He's been straining, trying to poop at least four times - each time passing a bit of pee and urates, but no poop.. until he passed an undigested, abnormally largish piece of what looks like a seed. I'm guessing he must have swallowed it whole by accident, and then had trouble digesting it. Maybe it was a seed that didn't actually belong in his seed mix? Anyway, it is hard, not soft at all, and surrounding it was very gooey green, translucent stuff... I can't tell whether it is urine mixed with poop, or what it is. Accompanying it was a small chunk of white urates. I can only compare the goo it to mucus in human feces... maybe it was there to help pass the hard seed?
He hasn't pooped more since then - about 20 minutes. I encouraged him to eat and drink a lot after passing that seed, thinking maybe he should be alright now, but please, any advice would be appreciated. There are no vets in my area that I can get to at this time.
edit:: I just noticed he also sounds like he has a runny nose, now listening to him eating.. but that might be unrelated and just water in his nostrils or something
