Skin question

Postby Readingexcalibur » Sun Feb 23, 2014 12:21 am

My 7 week old blue/gold macaw is doing something new. I noticed his white cheeks are flaking a bit. As if it was dry or dead skin falling off. Is this normal?

I can't help you with this because I've never had a macaw baby but I would assume it's not. Is the baby getting enough protein? How many feedings is he getting a day and what kind of formula?

Also don't have macaws, but what about humidity and bathing?

Wow, glad I got my baby to a vet. His skin flaking ended up being a sign of crop stasis and dehydration. They are hospitalizing my bird tonight. They said he has a small infection and it was stopping him from absorbing water from the formula.

Thank you for taking such good care of the baby! You did exactly the right thin rushing it to the vet because by the time we notice the smallest thing in them, they are real sick.
