Best way to get my conure to eat new things?

Postby Nuri » Sun Apr 06, 2014 5:45 pm

My conure eats nutri-berries no problem, I tried mixed seeds/fruit/nuts/pellets, but he'd eat the seeds and nuts and throw the rest out. I've gotten him to eat some apple too but overall he will only drop new foods even if I can convince him to pick them up.

I know nothing about him, he was a stray when the shelter got him.

Conures can be stubborn like that, at least delight is! :gcc:
Sunflower seeds used to be all he liked.
banana tastes like apple, have you tried that yet?
my conure does the same thing with pellets, i tried everything! he just picks through them.
I think that it would help if the nutri-berries were out of sight unless you are feeding them to him.
i guess just keep trying new things with him to find a good balance! good luck.

GCCs are mainly fruit eaters in the wild so it's not recommended they are free-fed pellets, seeds or nuts as it would be way too much protein for them. I suggest you cook some whole grains al dente (they can't be mushy, they don't like them like that) and mix them with chopped veggies. And keep on offering fresh fruit and leafy greens every day.
