Well, personally, I would much rather get high results than these low ones because, with high, you know there is still a part of the liver that it is working.

Eliminate the nutriberries and Avicake and feed budgie seed for dinner (and don't add the hemp, it's too high in protein and you need to reduce it drastically to get the values down).

Aloe Vera detox formula is actually very good. I used to use it myself with the birds, back when it was made by Naturade (now it's Lily of the Desert).

The other thing you can do is feed EVERYTHING organic and use good spring water for his drink.

With as sick as Bean is I would just stat with the detox formula that you are getting from the vet, we don't know if adding other things to it would interfere with the way it works or not. It is better to be safe than sorry. Bean is showing improvement quickly, so lets not get impatient and mess with things and let the doctors meds do their job. If any changes are needed they will be made after a new test is done to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment. I know that waiting is hard, but it is the best advice that I can offer at this time.
If the veggies that Bean is currently eating are all cooked, you should consider trying to get him to eat some raw veggies, some raw leafy greens, and some fruit.

I think the compounded meds are milk thistle extract, SamE and a probiotic, which are all good for the liver. But adding a splash of the aloe vera detox (or even plain aloe vera juice as long as it's organic and from the inner filet) will help, too (I always forget to include it in my recommendations but I use aloe vera juice all the time with my birds as well as ACV).

I have used aloe for reducing itchy skin for quite some time, especially with the birds that came here plucking their feathers. I have also been adding a small amount to their drinking water, as I understood that it was a digestive aide.

Ok. I see both sides. I was also concerned about the interferenc of the two, but took into consideration that they were all natural ingredients, so I don't know, Maybe I will ask the vet first, or use a small amount, or like Wolf said, wait and see if what we are doing is effective. Waiting really is torture.

Pajarita has much more knowledge and experience with this than I do. Rye ergot is all natural but has been responsible for more than a few deaths( it is the natural form of LSD), Hemlock is also natural and is a known poison as is belladonna. Being all natural does not mean that it is safer than the chemical versions and it is for this reason that I recommended caution. I would suggest that you take Pajarita's recommendations over mine in this.

I do 2/3 water and 1/3 aloe vera juice. The birds drink it like if it was plain water (I tasted it and it just has a very mild and pleasant herbal taste) and it's not only good for digestion, it's also a very good detoxifier. Has your vet mentioned using lactulose on him? It's fabulous for dissipating the ammonia that builds up in their blood when the liver is not working right - maybe the compound already has it. I don't use it for long term treatment because it's also a laxative but I use it in the 'intensive' first treatment I use to bring the bile acids levels down to a more manageable level.
