Regurgitation or vomiting?

Postby JaydeParrot » Thu May 08, 2014 2:38 am

Two days ago I noticed my male sennie looking at his mate (who was a perch away from him), the male kept bringing up little balls of whitish substance and spitting it on to the floor. I was worried that he was being sick, so I took him out and gave him a bit of orange to get rid of the taste, he seemed fine as soon as I took him out, he stopped throwing up, climbed up my shirt and glanced around as I walked. He hasn't thrown up since, I've never really seen regurgitation, but he was spitting his onto the floor.

Is there noticable difference between regurgitating and vomiting?

I've seen regurgitation but not vomiting. It sounds like that's what your sennie was doing except the regurgitated bits seemed to be carefully aimed(not sure that's the right word) at me, but we clearly need to find some one who has seen both to tell how they are different.

When a parrot vomits, it's obviously an involuntary action, there is no 'bringing up' movement of the head, it's more like projectile thing and it ends up all over the place, including its own face. When a parrot regurgitates, there is no 'violent movement' to the action, you see them moving their head up and down to bring up the food in the crop, and, once it reaches the beak, they either deposit it somewhere (mate/baby's beak, a toy or a human), drop it or swallow it again.

Your bird was regurgitating.
