Also, for any new bird owner who is reading this...I can't stress this enough! Make a savings account for yourself for a rainy day...but also make a savings account FOR YOUR BIRD EMERGENCY! I got very lucky. This could have cost me hundreds. I had been smart and saved before hand so I had the money available to me.

Metacam is pretty stable in its liquid form, as far as I know. I keep it in a dark, cool place to re-use it and I've never noticed it losing its effectiveness so it should be OK. She looks just fine. But why do you peel the blueberries for her? Doesn't she do it on her own?

She had stopped peeling anything yesterday, but did ok with the insides of the blueberry. She would pick one up and then drop it again and again. So I peeled one for her and she ate it. So we just peeled them for her. Today she is back to peeling them herself and biting apple. She also ate her wet berry mush stuff I freeze for her. She ate the soft coconut and loved it. Tomorrow I will bring back harder foods since she's doing really well, but I will still have the soft foods for her too, like normal. She eats better a half hour after taking the metacam. She's great at taking the meds! I'm still so amazed! Much easier then giving meds to a cat for sure. Giving my old cat a pill was a 20 min experience of me jaming it down is throat a million times, only to have him spit it back up again. I'm pretty good at giving cats pills too. But this cat even gave the vet trouble. Hide it in food! Ha! He always found it. Emmi just lays in her towel and licks it up. Easy! Lol

We also have a new cockatoo that moved in over the weekend. I have not met the people yet, but Emmi discovered it tonight. It's a screamer. They talked for awhile through screen doors...but this new bird is two buildings down. I imagined how their conversation went.

New Bird: Hi I'm a bird! My people leave me alone and I hate it!

Emmi: Hi I'm a bird too! My people leave me too sometime and they shut the fridge door on my beak, but they are ok!

New Bird: Oh! My people leave me alone and I hate it!

Emmi: Yes! I heard you!

New Bird: My people leave me alone and I hate it!

Emmi: Ok bye bye, I'm going to eat my blueberries now.

New Bird: Hey! My people leave me alone and I hate it!

Emmi: ...

New Bird: Helloooooo! HELLO!

She's not very impressed with the new bird. Lol

LOL - Awwwm, poor cockie! Yes, they do turn into screamers when left alone, they hate it sooooo much! I sure do wish people who work full time would not get such needy birds, they end up suffering every single day of their lives....

We heard the new bird again tonight...and the owner. They were having a cute argument about nuts. The new bird kept saying, "I want! I want!" And the lady kept saying, "No, you've had enough nuts! Eat your salad!" Haha...I wonder what my neighbors think of me when I get home from work and sing about how Emmi is a good bird. Or worse, when we argue about things Emmi cannot have. Lol I will have to meet these people eventually.

Today Emmi is 100% back to normal with food. Her beak looks good and her nose looks less pink. I put away the pain meds because she was able to crack open safflower seeds like normal before I gave her the meds this morning. I did give her one more dose just in case, but that's it. She had quite a fly session tonight and followed me everywhere as I was cleaning and putting away things that people left out...common in my home. Lol I'm about to make a "Put it away or I will trash it in a week" box. Lol

So she will be just fine. :)

I saw the title and was really worried for you. Reading on has put my mind at rest though, I am so glad she is ok.

How sweet of the children to make her cards, that's really touching.

Totally agree with the savings account. I was going to go for insurance but often they have so many reasons not to pay out I decided to set up their own account.
It is not a perfect system by any means, I put a lump sum of my own savings in then a portion of my wages each week- there is still room for things to go wrong. If all my animals got sick and required diagnostics and treatments in one go I might struggle, I would struggle if one or more of them required expensive lifetime care.
I've enough in the accounts to reassure me they are provided for in an emergency though and to get through any here and now veterinary expenses. As for a lifetime care situation arising then they have enough money to be going on with whilst I found another job or whatever it took to cope.
The bank account also serves the purpose to provide for them should I die or otherwise be unable to provide care for them.

My pets have more money than I do that's for sure lol.

So glad to hear that everything is behind Emmi and that she is now back to normal!

I guess that for people who don't have as many animals as we do, it's a good idea to have money put away for an emergency. We don't because this is always part of the normal budget, we have so many and almost all of them with health issues that I end up visiting the vets once a month, if I am lucky.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

I thought that was totally sweet that the kids made her cards. I can thank one of my co-teachers for that! How thoughtful! There were many more, I just didn't put them up. We really work hard to get the kids to make cards and thank-you messages. It's a dying art, letter writing. I was so glad to get them. They also made a banner for when my husband had his surgery. It really did brighten his night when I came home with it. Again, I can thank my lovely co-teacher. :)

Emmi is acting like nothing ever happened and we are being extra careful about doors, drawers, and anything that closes. No close calls so far. I think the biggest problem is the fridge door closes on its own so we just turn her over on her back and hold her. She's fine with this. We thought we were being careful with doors before, but you can never be too careful I guess. Accidents will happen anyway. I seem to get cut or scraped weekly at work. I have bruises that I never know how I got them. Things will happen to Emmi and I'm glad this was not serious.

Back when I was sailing a lot, there was this saying. There are two types of sailors. Those that have fallen overboard and those that will one day fall overboard. I'm part of the second croud and as soon as I get back to sailing, my days are numbered. Lol
