Experience with Vetericyn?

I was wondering if anyone here has tried Vetericyn on their fids. I got some for my horse, but the company claims it will work on anything, including birds and reptiles. It sounds good, but experience speaks loudest. Anyone?

But why would it work on a plucker? I mean, they don't actually claim that applying it made the bird stop plucking, do they? Because, if they do, it means that the bird had a skin infection to start with...

I have not had a need to use it yet but, for what I have read and heard, it's fabulous because it doesn't damage cells like all other disinfectants do and it acts the same as the body's natural defenses would (and, if it wasn't for anything else, I would use it just for this!). But it's mostly for cleaning, isn't it? I mean, you still have to treat the infection with either topical or internal antibiotics or antifungals.

I was hoping you would know about it, Pajarita! It sounds like something you would either love or hate.

The manufacturer's site says it is for "wound care"http://vetericyn.com/benefits/exotics.php . It is full of testimonials from horse people, but a lot of them mention giving antibiotics as well, so it must be disinfectant as you say. People say the wounds fill in and heal faster than they would otherwise.

Maybe the plucker had messed up his skin?

I put some on a bug bite to see what it did. It is more like a Liquid bandage-type product (disinfectant and bandage) than anything else, but when I tried Liquid Bandage some time back it stung like crazy when applied. Vetericyn cut off the air to the bite, stopping the itching, and did not sting at all.

I hope I never have to use it on my bird, but I'm glad I have it if I need it.
