Thanks for the excellent advice. I think for now, I am going to try to turn that room into the bird sanctuary. It's bright and sunny, warm and has a fan and lots of toys already. I'll have my sister move into my bedroom with us and give the birds that front room. They can see the action going on in the living room, but my family members are wise enough to know not to go in there if I am not there. I guess I never really thought about how much Emmy has had to deal with losing through this long process.

I've just thought about it like 'oh, she's in a clean healthy environment' 'she's is a great new cage with toys' 'she's getting good tasty veggies and fruits now' Are there any environmental things I should make sure they have? Or any thing special I should make sure she gets specifically? Today I just started seriously attacking the garage to get the humans moved out of the birds area and leaving just one shelf for bird things and one night stand for the radio and fan. Along with the birds and toys and a chair for prolonged interaction. Would this be a suitable room for four birds?

So far everything sounds wonderful. At this point pictures of them, their cages and surrounding would help to see what is happening and may help with any suggestions of an environmental nature. There are so many things and some of them we may overlook, especially when we put this much effort in, in a short amount of time. Besides that, I would love to see the birds.
It may sound like I am off my rocker, not that I have one, but paper lots of paper. The most loved toy that I have found for my birds is lots of paper for them to shred, it does get everywhere, but they just don't seem to be able to resist attacking this substance, they truly love to tear it up. Make wads of it for them, crumple it up and pull it back out to nearly flat, it doesn't matter they will love it and you for giving it to them and they will reward you with a huge mess of shredded paper.

How do I post pictures? I hate asking this question but I didn't figure it out after about 10 minutes and I would rather just ask for directions. :)

I use photobucket (it's easy to put them there, you just 'upload' 'from your computer') and, when you click on the picture you want to copy, you get some links on the right side, use the one that says 'image' and insert it in your posting.

The most important thing for birds is to have good natural and artificial light and in the right schedule (their endocrine system works 100% through light exposure and they are the most vision oriented animals of all the vertebrates so good light in a good schedule means a healthy glandular system, good appetite/mood/sleep). This means good quality full spectrum light (CRI 93+ and Ktemp 5000-5500), a pair of nice size windows (better if they have South and East exposure) and a 'bird' schedule, not a 'human' one (lights on when the sun is already up in the sky and off when it's halfway down).

Also, they like to have one side of their cage 'covered' -this could mean putting the cage against a wall or putting a towel or something on one side -it gives them peace of mind because it makes them feel safe as no predator or danger will come from that side. Also, their roosting perch (the one they use for sleeping) should be put all the way up against the covered side.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. So far, we have been taking pictures of everything with my digital camera, which my boyfriend has with him out of town. Right now, these are the pictures from when I first met them all. I'll get you some updated pictures as soon as I can. I hate to admit I'm not the best with technology. Probably for the best as my conure takes every single opportunity he gets to chew on anything that looks like it has a screen or it remotely shiny. Bells are his Favorite toy.

This is Emmy the first day I met her when she started tugging my heart strings.

Quite the looker when she wasn't trying to attack through her cage.

This is Angel the day we met.

And Angel again.
Image

This is Shorty. When we met and I opened his cage to see if he would interact as his other friends wouldn't, he leaned right up against my chest and stole my heart. I think he knows it too.
Image

And Shorty again while I was talking to him in between cleaning everything.

Those are the three I brought home with me. As I promised, I'll get some recent pictures up as soon as I can. I'm facing technology problems. Dropped my phone recently and the camera is bugging out on me. My digital camera is in Alabama! I'll get some soon though!

Bonus pictures of my conure, Conner!

This is Conner in his cage right before we moved the bed room into the garage and turned this room into the bird room. He Loves his cage being in front of the window, and we cover the other side at night near where he sleeps. His behavior in and around his cage changed almost over night when we put him here. He Loves it.

That's my sister in the back ground. He plays with her all day when she's laying on the futon.

And finally, these two are my next planned rescues, they come from the same place, I am just trying to get his grandfather to agree to let me surrender them to a sanctuary because I can not, being a rational or practical person, attempt to care for them as well.

I actually, don't know the breed of this bird, and while asking him as much as I can each time I'm there... I may have not gotten an answer, or forgotten with the intense amounts of information I've been trying to absorb. Either way, would you be able to tell me?

And this is the other one... and in all honesty, I'm not 100% on this breed either. : / This little one was by far the meanest though. Rivaling Emmy with the pure anger behind the strikes. Emmy would at least calm down to see what was going on, like in the pictures posted above. This little one stayed fluffed and angry 100% of the time.

Awww, a Timneh Grey (yes, they are a bit meaner than the Congos but you are super lucky she is not plucking!), possibly a Lesser Sulfur Crested (in VERY bad plumage, poor thing! and I say possibly because Citrons can look like a small LSC when they've had a bad diet for a long time), an Umbrella (bad plumage but not anywhere as bad as the LSC), a Red Fronted Kakariki (I think, is he quite small? I can't tell the size or much more than the red crown on the pix -does he look like this? : http://beautyofbirds.com/kakarikis.htm), and a Quaker (and yes, they turn real mean when neglected but can also be extraordinarily affectionate when well-treated). And Conner is a Yellow Sided (aka Fancy) GCC! Sweet baby birds!

Be careful about the Quaker as they are illegal to have as pets in Georgia.
