Will stay away from palm oil then- The rainforests have been damaged enough!

Does anyone know if Aloe Vera is ok to feed/put on parrots? I've read lots of sites that says it stops excessive itching and plucking. I smeared some on my Sennie, Hide yesterday and he stopped itching immediately, I also gave him a very small dap of it to drink. He seems ok, I just wanted to make sure others thought Aloe Vera was ok, it's the 100% type from Holland&Barretts.

Also, is it agreed that elder berry branches are bad to give to birds, I've given them elder berry branches to chew loads of time thinking they were safe. Put one in their cage today, saw a site saying they were dangerous and quickly removed it from the cage, Sennies weren't very pleased,.

Elderberry is on my list of toxic woods and toxic plants both.

Thanks, will stay away from that then.

Any idea on Aloe Vera though? Hide seems to be taking well to it and sites seem to agree that it's benificial, I just wanted to make sure parrot forum members also think it's ok.

I use aloe in the spray bottle that I use for misting my birds and have been known to put a little in their drinking water. I don't use it on a regular basis in the drinking water but do add it about once a month.

I put aloe vera juice from the inner filet (not gel and not from whole leaf) in the water of parrots with liver issues almost every day and twice a month for everybody else. It's good for detoxifying and the birds don't seem to mind the mild 'herbal' flavor at all (I use 2/3 water, 1/3 aloe vera juice). I have also used it for misting birds that are either plucking or barbering their plumage as well as the ones that look very dirty when they first come in (just a splash in a large misting bottle).
