New Bird 10 weeks old and sick

Postby Catt417 » Mon Aug 25, 2014 12:10 am

I am really hoping someone out there can give me some input on this.I bought a Blue Quaker on Aug 16th. I picked it because it was very quiet and very sweet.
Well, I brought it home and it has done nothing but eat and sleep. When it sleeps it teeter totters on the food dish. It wont go up to the perches and has not made any noise.
This past Saturday, Aug 23rd, it started vomitting and has been on and off. It has been blowing bubbles when it vomits and clear, thick fluid comes out of his mouth.
I am taking him to a vet tomorrow. I also noticed he isnt banded. I called breeder about this and she said within the past 7 days it must have got sick at my house. However, I read online it usually takes 10 days for a bird to even show signs of illness. Breeder claims its different with 10 week old birds.
Then I find out the guy she got him from drove him in a car from North Carolina ro NY. I read that stress can also be a factor.
Can anyone please give me some input on this? I feel as if I was sold a sick bird.
By the way, its poop has been reddish-brown and she said that was from Zupreem.
Anyone please help?

If you even want a chance to save the birds life get it to the vet now, I mean right now, or it will die. Worry about the rest later.

The vet will tell you what is going on and I hope your baby bird gets well but you might have waited too long. Baby birds are frail and it sounds as if that bird is not only VERY sick but also that he/she has been sick for many days so it might not make it. I realize you have no experience and this is the reason why you let it go so I am not scolding you but everything you wrote about the bird are real bad symptoms.

In case you need another vote, get your bird to an AV.

I am thinking evil thoughts about the person who sold you a sick bird, but do what you can to save your baby before you deal with them.
