Vomiting/weird neck movement when eating

Postby EJR » Thu Sep 04, 2014 7:59 pm

I have a Blue Crowned Conure and he keeps doing this weird movement thing that appears to be throwing up when he eats sometimes. He doesn't do it all the time and he does it mostly when he is hungry. My Ringneck has also just started doing this today while I was feeding both of them some cashew nuts. I have had the BCC since sometime in May and he has been doing it since I got him, but the Ringneck I have had a few weeks and he has just started doing it and he is sneezing more often. The BCC also sneezes quite often and he has irritated red nostrils sometimes. What does the throwing up thing mean? They aren't affectionately regurgitating, so what is it?

Now this sounds like you need to take the birds in to see the vet, both of them. The sooner you can do this the better it will be. Something is definitely wrong with both of these birds.

When they sneeze often and they have reddish, swollen nares, it's usually a respiratory infection caused by lack of vitamin A so, yes, you need to take them to a vet to get antibiotics for them but you also might have to improve their diet by adding lots of produce rich in betacarotene like sweet potatoes, carrots, dark leafy greens (but no spinach), pumpkin or squash (butternut, acorn, winter and spaghetti squash), papaya, cantaloupe, etc (broccoli, romaine lettuce and sweet peas also have good levels of betacarotene).
