I recently acquired a cockatiel and he refuses to eat anything but seed, i heard some baby food can help substitute greens, do you think that's a good idea? Any specific flavored or other ideas?

My tiels love leafy greens (and broccoli) and gloop, why don't you try feeding him that?

It ok 6 whole years to get Harlie to eat anything fresh, I tried and persevered with just about every method going- she wouldn't even touch soaked seeds it was that bad. I managed to get her eating Harrisons pellets (yea I know, but it was better than just seed). From there she started to eat stuff that was cut to the same size as the pellets that was similar in colour (cauliflower, whole wheat pasta, brown rice etc). A year ago we got as far as feeding her a gloop mixture which went down really well to the point where she was chirping away whilst eating it. Unfortunately shes just started getting picky again this past couple of months but I'm not giving up.

Do you mean human baby food? If so I wouldn't bother as a lot of it has salt, sugar and other crap in it. You could always make a gloop and mash it up and put a little mixed in the seeds so it coats them to start with and gradually increase the quantity and change the texture but I would just try it via normal introductory methods first.

While it can work, I usually only advise it in an emergency situation due to the additives. So if you are looking to try that avenue you have got to read the labels and if it has anything other than water and veggies in it I would pass on it. A better alternative would be to remove the core from an apple and run it through a blender along with a few other veggies and then sprinkle a little seed on that.
