NEED HELP! my budgie has started to get brown feathers. feat

my male budgie houdi, has scaly face mites that have started to clear up since ive treated him but recently he has started geting weird brown coloured feathers around his legs that look like dirt. ive gave him baths but just doesnt come off. i'll try and upload a picture. ?????????????????????


could i still have montie (his partner) in the same cage with him. (she excaped her and houdies cage. (they arnt tame so i had to put them in another cage inside an avairy because im short on avairies so i could treat houdies scaly face mites and montie in there for company)

I can't really tell you how to upload a picture other than your problem may be that the picture is too big and needs to be resized.
As for what you are describing with your bird, it makes me think that the mites may be spreading. As for keeping the birds together, unless you are going to treat the both of them I don't think that I would. Even if I was I don't think that I would as I would not want to put a healthy bird through treatments if it didn't need them.

Too late, all birds in the same room need to be treated. And don't forget to do it three weeks in a row or they will come back (mites have a 21 day life cycle so, if you don't do it three weeks in a row, there could be eggs that are still viable and start the infestation all over again). What are you using? Not a spray, right?

As to the brown feathers, if it doesn't come out with bathing (it could be discharge from the affected skin), it's most likely follicle damage from the mites or stress marks. But the first thing you need to do is take care of the mites.

ive got the mites cleared up. i use parrafin oil to treat him. would that work on his feathers. also im worried about when he preens that area.

My dear, if you used paraffin oil (we call it kerosene) you poisoned your bird. What possessed you to do such a thing when there are perfectly good parasiticides that are safe for birds?!
