Could someone be specific on the strict solar cycle

Postby Cedardave » Sat Oct 25, 2014 8:57 am

are we talking the solar cycle the bird would get in its natural habitat or the light available in whatever part of the world the bird lives in as a pet.A supplimental source to mimic the natural enviroment?I thought I had this figured out, but the more I read the more confused I get.

It's the solar schedule that is local to where the bird is housed (unless you live near the polar circles). You can't do their country of origin solar schedule because you would not be able to give them any exposure to dawn and dusk (and they need full exposure or they cannot synchronize their circadian cycle). I live in the States Northeast and the days are pretty short during the winter but my birds are healthy and strong on it and none has a single hormonal issue. To give you an idea, this time of the year, I turn on the overhead full spectrum lights (CRI 94+ - Ktemp 5000) at 9 am and turn them off at 4:15 pm (but, if the day is dark, as in stormy days, I do it a bit earlier).

So basically a couple hours before and a couple hours after sun set? What if you live where the windows don't let in full sun????? Is it still enough what ever they get???? This may be part of my problem i am having with him after all...? because I haven't been getting up real early and uncovering his cage so he hasn't been getting that sun rise light. But, why would this if it is so make his hormones go crazy? Actually, maybe i will post this question back on my thread.
