Pomegranate Overdose?

Postby Weka » Thu Oct 30, 2014 6:21 pm

I recently discovered that my African Red-Belly is a little pomegranate monster and will eat as many of those ruby-red seeds as he can! Has anyone heard any negatives about feeding this fruit to parrots -- poicephalus parrots in particular? Should there be a limit to how much he should be allowed per meal, etc.?

Any thoughts would be appreciated....

I've never read or heard anything to that effect. Just make sure the fruit is ripe because they always sell them green. His poop will be watery and look as if he was bleeding and rotting internally  but this is normal and nothing to worry about. My birds (with the exception of the canaries) all love pomegranate seeds and get them often this time of the year (they are VERY healthy!).
