Yes, the sprinkle of seeds is only at the beginning so as to 'show' them that this new thing is food and to 'trick' them into trying it so you don't want to mix them forever or put so much of them that the bird will be satisfied with picking the seeds out. I would not add fruit for a tiel and a budgie because very few of them eat them and, the ones that do, in my personal experience, take years before they do. Veggies chopped small or the ones that already come in a small size (baby peas, corn) is the way to go with them. Don't mash anything, quite the contrary, the grains should all be separate and a bit hard so they 'think' they are just soaked seeds.

Successfully made my gloop. My 'tiel has nibbled on the brown rice, some the carrot, but not much else. I'm excited he at least showed interest in it. The budgies haven't even touched theirs. Then again, it's day 1. Keeping my fingers crossed- thank you for your help!

Good job!!! Keep on trying, both my tiels and my budgies love gloop and eagerly come down from their perches to eat it as soon as I put the plate on the bottom of their cage.

My tiel and budgie used to LOVE corn on the cob! Also, I agree with Parjarita about fruit being difficult (I tried for years with my budgie with no success), but once my budgie did try fruit (It took 5-6 years) , I could never again eat fruits in peace. She would eat and toss it half of it to the floor where my cockatiel (who was bonded to her and would do everything she did) would eat it up from.
