Wait a minute. How is his wing bandaged? When a wing breaks (or is damaged in any way, even just soft tissue damage), the right way of bandaging/splinting it is with what is called an 8 bandage. The '8' comes from the way the bandage is put on, making a figure 8 with it and it goes on a folded wing and around the body. Wings are never splint open because, as these fractures are very tricky (the bones are difficult to align), if you did it wrong (and, if you do it with the wing open, it will be wrong), the bird will end up with a permanently half-open wing which would make it real difficult for him to move around BUT, if you do it in an 8 you not only have a much better chance of getting it right, but even if you don't, the wing would be permanently folded and would not impede the bird's movement at all. These bandages are not really bulky or heavy and are quite comfortable to the bird because the wing is in a naturally folded position and the bandage itself is around the body (it simply immobilizes the wing against the body) so the bird can stand, climb, bend over and move around in a completely natural way.
