I've never liked using plastic toys or bowls with my birds (or any of my animals, for that matter) and, recently, my suspicions about its long-term safety have started to become certainties from some very recent studies and, personally, I think that we will find out more and more harmful effects:

YIKES I'm glad that I use ceramic and stainless steel for all my pets.
When you reach the end of your rope tie a knot and hang on.
