All of my feathered friends made a trip to the vet this week. Fortunately, everyone's test came back within good limits. I had CBCs, chem profiles, bile acids, pssitacosis, and fecal smears done. (Wolf, I did mention PBFD to him, especially concerning my Rosella, and he said he could test for it but it would be "wasted" money; due to the fact of her age, etc).
One unusual thing was found. My Quaker has a lump slightly above her thigh under her wing. He thought it might be an "out of place" fat deposit, such as a lipoma or liposarcoma. We had a cytology done on it, and it came back as just fat. This indicates a lipoma or liposarcoma. He suggested we go with a lipoma, and just try to reduce fat in the diet and increase exercise and have it checked in a month. He suggested this route because 1) liposarcomas aren't *that* common, 2) the quaker had a very very poor diet and no exercise at her prior home and I haven't had her that long for diet alone to make a difference, 3) removal is invasive and could be dangerous. The wings are clipped on her, so the exercises we'll start are getting her to flap ger wings around the house on my hand.
So my question to you all, has anyone ever dealt with a lipoma in one of their birds? What treatment plan did you go with? Has anyone dealt with a liposarcoma (the journal articles I've read make it sound... bad/deadly)? Are there modifications/additions to her "gloop" I should make?
Thanks for any insight you guys might have! I appreciate your time!
