It's not the case with my Vet, apparently, but what about a vet who decides that he is gone from home too much to provide what a bird needs? It seems to me that a vet may be the very person most likely to reach that conclusion.

If you're working 12 hour shifts at a 24 hour emergency facility, and your commute is 70 minutes each way, and you're working odd shifts; nights sometimes, days sometimes, sometimes working doubles, it would seem that you would be unable to accommodate a bird's need for routine, for socialization, for out of cage time, etc.

I know the owner and head vet at the animal hospital at which my sister works ended up bringing his Yellow nape into the hospital and leaving him there. He was there more, awake, than he was at home, and when he wasn't, someone else was.

Ahhhh, yes, you are right about a single amazon not doing well when kept by person who works such long hours but then, there are aviary psittacine species (as well as passerines) that don't need human company to be healthy and happy.

Yes, the dosages are so small that if you don't get the whole thing in their beak, you are not giving them enough, but what I do is always put a tiny bit more in the syringe and then make sure the tip is resting inside the beak, in the middle of the bottom one (the equivalent would be under a human's tongue).

Should I be concerned with one very watery poop?

She did her huge morning poop, which looked fairly normal, maybe a bit looser than normal, but her next one was almost all water. There were just a few little specks of what looked like blueberry remnants.

I have been watching all day, and nothing else seems too out of the ordinary.

She is going back to the vet in a few days anyhow, but if she has loose stools she will go back sooner. It's a 24hour facility.

I don't get concerned with the occasional watery poop and depending on how much moisture is in the food that I give them, even a couple of watery poops don't concern me. When I drink or eat a food that is high in water content, I gotta pee and so do they.

Yeah, me neither. Unless I see consistent diarrhea or polyuria, I don't worry. But try giving her a good probiotic two hours after her antibiotic.

After 40 days of antibiotics, all blood tests and swabs are showing normal. Weight has been steady at 68 grams. We don't have to go back to the vet until the next regular checkup.

YaY. Hopefully you got this beat, but I know that you can't be sure of that until the next checkup. When is that going to be?

I don't have another appointment. I think the last 2 visits, a week apart, showed good bloodwork. The swabs were done only at the last appointment.

She has been asymptomatic since her second appointment.

The vet in Boston will now be my regular vet for the bird, so she will be seeing her again in the fall.
