I can definitely relate to this. I don't always know the best way to express what I want to say and I guess that my weird sense of humor comes through at these times as my original thoughts seem to be to dark and I try to lighten them up a bit. I am not into grudges or any thing of that nature, I feel that we need to be more understanding and caring for everyone regardless of their physical form.
I currently have four birds and I am constantly amazed at the depth of their emotions and how hard they try to show me how much they love and care for me.

There will never be another bird like JJ. Look for a rescue that needs you. You will not be trying to fill JJ's place. The next one will find it's own place.

I mourn the loss of my pets even more than people probably because I could not say good bye,
I had a cat or she had me who was so bonded to me. She was so special. She even learned to say a few words: Momma, milk, out and no. About a month after she passed I thought I could never have another cat but one day a tiny little kitten found my front porch. She was even too little to be away from her mom. She is 18 now and though she is a wonderful cat I still think of my Cali Cat. She is no Cali Cat but she has become a fantastic Fancy Cat.

Mourn your loss but don't let your love go to waste when there is another some where waiting for you.

liz's post took me back 21 years ago when I lost Penny, my tiel. I told myself I would never get a bird again. Well 3 months later JJ came into my life and I loved and cared for him for 20 years. 20 years he would never have had if I didn't rescue him from the garbage. Yes someone put him out for garbage pickup.

There is a parrot rescue 1 hour away. When I'm ready I will visit and see if anyone wants to come home with me.

To everyone, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support.

I don't know where you are but I look on Craigslist. Any one who wants to rehome in a hurry has a bird at risk. Low rehoming fee could be a throw away. I answered an add that started with "cheap birds". They were not cheap but they needed me. Flutter was a wild child and Phoenix had been mutilated.

Yes, please look in CL and kijiji. Birds in a rescue, if the rescue is good, are moderately well taken care of but birds that are posted in CL or kijiji need a new home are, sometimes, at a higher risk.

Pajarita, that is exactly how I feel. If a bird made it to a shelter he has a better chance of survival than the ones being peddled on CL. I know there are some who really love and care about their birds and don't want to give them up but have to. They are safe were they are and will be cared for until a new good home can be found. It is the other ones who are being peddled that tare my heart out.
