Gloop questions

Postby Navre » Thu Mar 19, 2015 11:55 am

A couple of Gloop questions:

I have read that Greencheeks have a mainly fruit diet. Would you modify the gloop if you were preparing it for just a greencheek?

Is there a lot of protein with those beans and lentils? I could have sworn I was cautioned about giving beans to birds, but it may have been uncooked beans.

My GCC is being very noisy lately, presenting a lot (only to me), and spends a large part of the morning screaming at the juncos and sparrows outside. She is on a solar schedule, she gets fruit, peas, some random greens every morning. She eats Harrison's pellets, too. And by "eat" I mean drop them into her water bowl and then see if she can fish it out before it totally dissolves.

I don't know if she is just going through puberty (Hatch date January 20, 2014), or if there is a diet or environmental problem.

If she wants to get excited and scream at the birds outside, I will just let her. I just want to make sure it's the only issue.

I am also open to the idea of a companion bird for her, but I don't know how to be sure that they would get along. I figure that eventually someone will want to rehome an appropriately sized bird and we could try it out then.

Beans and lentils do have some protein but I don't think that it is enough to be a problem. I am giving you a link to the GCC on The World Parrot Trust site. It isn't much but it may help with you food question http://www.parrots.org/index.php/encycl ... ed_conure/
I think that you may just be having a little puberty issue going on and it will pass. There is no way of knowing if any two birds will get along before the are exposed to each other. They don't have to be placed in the same cage to find out that they won't get along, but it is the final test if they appear to get along. Because of this if you decide to try for a companion bird make sure that you want the bird yourself in case it doesn't work out between the birds.
