Bell Pepper Core?

Postby mrachelle » Thu Mar 19, 2015 5:13 pm

I'm making stuffed peppers tonight (green bells) and I always cut out the core of the pepper (seeds, stem, core). I'd never thought about it before but... Can I offer the entire core to my green cheek? She loves peppers, but I've only fed her the flesh. Are the seeds and "core" safe for her to nom on tonight?

Thanks! :gcc:

Honestly, I don't know. I have never heard of there being any problems from peppers of any kind although I can't say if anyone has ever given the whole bell pepper to a parrot.

Rambo and Myrtle eat hot peppers and sweet peppers. The cockatiels don't seem to like the pepper itself but love to pick the seeds off the core.

I give them the 'fleshy' part, never the core or the seeds. I don't think they are poisonous but I don't eat them so they don't either.

Since our little IRN's insanely favorite food happens to be bell peppers, thought I'd weigh in!

Bell pepper seeds aren't toxic (at least according to the stretchy searches I did on them) - however to us humans they taste slightly bitter and not that nice. Birds however, love them.

Having said that ours just loves bell peppers and peppers in general. The fleshy part and the seeds both! He's completely nuts for them. His favorite in particular are the yellow ones. If he happens to be in his cage and he sees us handle one he goes totally nuts and gets super excited. Go figure, I myself don't care for them too much. I find that if I have some the after taste lingers for ages!
