Coffee Mishap

I was cleaning up around the kitchen. I came across a (possibly days old) travel mug full of coffee that was about 50% flavored, sweetened creamer. I drink coffee black, so I assume this was my wife's.

I dumped it into the sink, and when I did it startled the bird and she jumped right into the sink after it. She got pretty wet with the coffee/milk/sweetener mixture.

I figured that she would preen herself and be ingesting all of this, none of which is good for her. (Caffeine, dairy, God knows what bacteria)

I cleaned out the sink, keeping her occupied so she wouldn't preen, filled the sink with warm water, and let her jump in again. She swam and bathed a bit and I took her out.

She sneezed a bit after I took her out. She seems fine now and is preening and drying off. Not sure what else I should do.

I think that you did just fine, so I doubt that your bird ingested enough of anything to bring it any harm.

Please be careful about the depth of her bath water, birds don't swim, you know?

She has the desire to jump into whatever water she sees, especially if it's running water. I usually don't let her in the kitchen when the water is running.

I have to defend my coffee. If I don't put the cup straight into the dish washer then I have to rinse it out.

My GCC loves to bathe any which way she can and she often would climb down my arm and onto my hand so she can 'shower' under the kitchen faucet when I am washing the canaries dishes (she has designated herself the 'canary room helper'), maybe that's what yours want to do - have you tried putting your hand with her perched on it just in front of a gentle stream of water flowing from the faucet? Mine would, sometimes, take her time deciding when it's the perfectly appropriate moment to get her head under it and, sometimes, she decides to take a drink of water first but I just wait for her to make up her mind.
