Not sure how to describe this, skin around eye? Pictures

Postby lmacsen » Sat Apr 04, 2015 11:08 am

Hello I have a baby indian ringneck parrot 8 weeks old and I see he has a piece of skin on his right eye.

Have you ever seen this before?

I tried to take it off but it is like a skin and I was afraid to hurt the parrot.

Thank you for your help.

No, I've never seen or heard of anything like that. Have you tried very gently flushing the eye? It might just be a little something stuck on either end but not really attached... but don't pull or even touch it, just flush over it.

Nothing that I have ever seen, if flushing it with water does not remove it, take him to the vets.

Yes I tried first but that 'thing' looks like a piece of skin on top of his eye and I cannot remove it when I flush over it.
When he close the eye I can see that is inconfortable for him.

I attached another photo that is more visible (don't look at his beak, he was on eating session :) )
Monday I will go to talk with an avian vet.

Thank you so much for your response.

When I enlarge this last picture of the eye I can see where it appears that one end is attached to the eyelid, so you should take the bird to the vet to get it removed, it is too dangerous to try to remove by yourself.

I hope it's nothing serious and my bird is not to young for a surgery.

It should not be too hard for the vet to fix this, I am certain that it is painful whenever he closes the eye but it should not be hard to fix.
