Yes, it is a surgical procedure and on animals of this size it is always a risky procedure, but the alternative could be worse.

Does having the biopsy have any long term affects?

Well folks time for an update.

Ringo has had his liver biopsy - no fatty liver - all tests done no viruses either. No poising

His previous blood test showed a lower white blood cell count again and an increased bile acid reading however was just about in the range.

I think we have done all tests we can do perhaps best to monitor and see how he is? He could have diabetes but that's about all I think it could be

I`ll post the last blood test results on later but after a CT scan, five blood tests and a liver biopsy not sure there is much else to try!

I think that an elevated bile acids shows the early stages of liver disease, If you act now you have a good chance of turning it around. This is just my take on this.

Yes, Wolf is right. Elevated bile acids mean the liver is not functioning as it should but it doesn't necessarily mean fatty liver, it could be due to aflatoxin or metal poisoning, it could be from having had a disease like psittacosis, it could be cancer, it could be many things... but most things would have turned up on the biopsy (not aflatoxin or previous metal poisoning, though).

If the vet still cannot figure out what is wrong with him, specifically, I would just continue with a completely organic, fresh food diet with liver supplements and immune system boosters, strict solar schedule, good lights (everything that can diminish stress) and check again in another 6 months.

Thanks guys for the response i`ll post the results in a bit - just so worried by the low white blood count but there is no obvious solution - has been tested for pretty much all viruses and as you say the liver biopsy should have shown any issues as the vet said to test it for all viruses. Toxic tests lead, zinc etc have also been done.
