You mentioned an aviary that the birds are placed in for sunshine that is outside, could you post a picture of it as well as perhaps some closeups of the cage this bird is in or has been being kept in. I am looking for places where the powder coating is worn or gone. Has the bird had access to painted surfaces that he may have chewed on? I am not aware of where you live so I don't know if you have to supply heat for the birds, but if so what is the source of the heat? What about cookware is it nonstick and if so how old is it? What about toys that you give them to play with, are they painted or dyed? Do you have any idea as to where they were manufactured?
Yes, I am grabbing at straws to some degree as I am trying to figure this all out. I would continue with the milk thistle, but I wonder where we are as far as his diet goes. So what do you feed him and when do you feed it to him? What is his current lighting schedule? Is he exposed to the twilight period that occurs at dawn as well as at dusk? When does he get up in the mornings and when does he go to sleep at night.

Wolf, he was tested for metal poisoning and was negative for it but this doesn't mean he was not very sick from it at one point and has now gotten better, leaving a malfunctioning liver behind. Same with aflatoxin poisoning. You can get rid of the problem that sickened the organs in the first place but the damage remains... Psittacosis is another story because he would show antibodies in his blood even if he was no longer sick from it.

But I agree with where you are going. Right now, the best thing that can be done for this bird, in my personal opinion, is IMPECCABLE husbandry (not an easy thing to achieve for anybody with a normal lifestyle).

I hear you, Pajarita, the purpose is twofold. The first is trying to see if I can find anything that would have been a possible cause and to correct them as a preventative for current and future birds.
