carrots for parrots

I'd love it if my parrot ate his baby carrots. He seems much more interested in chewing on them and spitting out the mush than eating them, unfortunately. I had an idea to take half a peanut and grinding it into powder with a mortar & pestle and sprinkling the powder over an entire bag of baby carrots to maybe season them but I don't know how well that'd work.

The little guy is trying to eat the carrot. Birds are not neat eaters so he is dropping as much as he eats. I give raw carrot to Rambo and Myrtle but the cockatiels eat more carrot when it is steamed and softened a little. They have little bitty beaks. So do budgies.

Liz, I think that the term parakeet is getting in your way. I assume that the reason for this is that we are accustomed to the term budgie and parakeet being the same, but the truth is that while all budgies are parakeets most parakeets are not budgies. In this case the Derbyan Parakeet is just a little smaller than my Cag, with an average weight of 320 grams or just over 11 ounces. A budgie weighs right about 1 ounce and a cockatiel weighs in from just under 3 ounces to about 3 1/2 ounces.
