African Grey Chicks having digestion problem

Postby hrasheed911 » Tue May 05, 2015 5:51 am

Hello,

I have two African grey chicks one of the chick is pooping slowly after every half and hour but the quantity is low in comparison to other chick and from the outlook it seems that some part of the feed is stuck at his belly, i am attaching the pics if you can help.

It apears that its getting weak and dull and not asking for food, i have also consulted a VET and he told me that his stomach is filled with AIR and he EVI-LIV syrup is prescribed and also give the chick some glucose as well.

Thanks,
AB

How old are the babies? What are you feeding them? How often are you feeding them? Are you giving the baby what the vet prescribed? How often are you giving what the vet prescribed? Are there any signs of improvement?

I have no idea what EVI-LIV syrup is, I did a search and couldn't find anything - not a single thing! on the internet. It also sounds to me as if your vet doesn't really know much about birds because although glucose is given to mammals to keep their energy up, it's never given to birds. Without anything else to go by, I would say it's sour crop -which is a fungal infection created by incorrect hand-feeding (wrong formula, too cold, wrong schedule or medium, dirty implements, etc) and that requires not only correcting what is wrong about the feedings but also giving the babies antifungals as well as probiotics and supportive care (high warmth, quiet, dark place, immune system boosters, etc).
