Also a good tip. I'll give it a shot on the next batch. Today the food still seemed mostly fresh.

The problem I have with giving them 'fruit salad' or a selection of produce every day is that they tend to pick and choose what they like best and leave the rest so, in reality, even though you feed a nice variety, they end up eating the same two or three things over and over (I tried and observed them closely). That's why I have settled on the gloop (lots of veggies but with different flavors every day) and one kind of fruit, one veggie and one green a day - this way, they eat a much larger range in the long run.

We are always sprouting different beans, so a supply is always ready as needed. Grains are cooked every couple of days. I do add fresh produce to keep it interesting. Things like sweet potato get steamed/baked as needed.

I'm a vegetarian, imagine the horror, my husband is from Texas (beef country) So there is a lot of produce and fruit at our house. I do buy bird specific items only.

This is a great idea!!! Thank you!

Pajarita, she empties her bowl everyday and all the mess on the cage floor is chewed up mash. So far so good. I think I got lucky with her. She tries new foods very easily now. The trick for her is the salad. When I was offering her a new food by itself she wouldn't touch it. In the bowl she eats it all.

It took a few days but I think I have the food portion right now. At first it was empty, then I gave more and there was a bit b left over. Gave a bit less and now it's empty each day. Plus I give her 20 pellets a day which she never empties. Definitely prefers fresh.

Although I dislike waste, with parrots, waste is a fact of life. You never want them to run out of food, which means there will always be more waste than we want.

She never runs out of food to eat. Just fresh food. She gets her fill in the morning and eats slightly less than half. Eats the rest later and has a minor amount of pellets as back up.

I also do morning training sessions with her so she eats then as well. Plus she is usually handed a solid grape or can forage for the 1-2 nutriberries that I hide in her toys.

Thanks for the correction. I misunderstood and thought she was running out of food, my bad.
