Twenty minutes once a day will provide all the UV light need by her body. I use mine primarily to provide better lighting for mine to see by. I still have to use the same bulbs that I gave the specifications for but the light does not have to be placed as close to the bird. It allows me to put the bulb in a ceiling fixture instead of in a lamp that is only a couple of feet away from the bird.
I use a full spectrum light but I don't trust the manufacturers. This is really an issue all across the board as there is very little regulation or standards in the bird industry. This means that manufactures can say and do just about anything they want and the bird owner has very little recourse in the event of injury or death of their bird.
I use the lights to help my birds see better as I am told that the UV light doesn't travel far enough to do the birds body any good if I place it at say 3 feet away from the bird. But, I don't know or trust this because the very same UV light crosses millions of miles of space to get to earth and then through several miles of atmosphere to get to the bird and us on the ground and yet it can't travel more than 2 feet through the air around us. I just doesn't make sense to me, it may be true, but it still makes no sense to me.
