Rosy Bourke Not Drinking?

Postby Sibyl » Mon Jun 22, 2015 11:27 am

My Rosy Bourke's Parakeet, Lolita, won't drink anything. Her water is in one of the feeder dishes right beside her food dish. She's 4-5 months old, originally hand-fed. She eats normally, she just won't drink.

It has been a full day, almost two. Help? ;~;

The only wet food I have offered her is smashed apple, which she won't eat. Is there wet food I can buy for her? Or make?

Vegetables and fruit are the best wet foods. You can also offer her gloop. She has to be drinking some water. They don't seem to eat like we do that we have to have a drink with our food.
If you are worried you can offer her some organic fruit or veggie juice.
I leave apple and other fresh food in little chunks so they can be picked up. Rambo was slow to eat banana because he did not want to pick it up.

Birds do get a lot of their water from the foods that they eat, but they also usually drink a little bit in the early mornings about the time they would normally eat and again in the evenings, but not much the rest of the time. If her poops are looking normal then she is probably drinking and you are just missing seeing her doing it. Watch for her poops and if they start looking like they are getting drier then she may not be drinking.

Are there any changes in her poops? Any signs of not drinking or of drinking?
