New parrot diet questions.

Postby NathanDesnoyers » Wed Jul 08, 2015 6:22 am

New to the forrum, and have been getting some great opinions on training and handling my new friend.
Just a questions on his eating habbits,
So i heard two meals with snacks in between is great so what im doing is fresh quinao and steamed broccoli in the morning 7am for breakfast and his pellet food for dinner with freah fruits and treats for snacks.
Is this considered an acceptable diet?

I believe that I have already weighed in on this matter in one of your other posts, so I will wait and give others the chance to reply to you first. If you have any specific questions for me I will respond as soon as I see it. If no one else has responded by the end of the day I will respond to this anyway.

Well, quinoa is great but it is a seed and it is high in protein plus, you can't feed just one type of seed and steamed broccoli every single day (boooring! and he will fill up on the seed and eat very little of anything else) Why don't you try making a simple gloop to give him for breakfast along with raw produce (one fruit, one veggie, one leafy green) and a seed mix for dinner (you can add some quinoa to the seed mix) and you can use pieces of tree nuts for training and treats. This is what I do for my senegals and they do great on it.

Hmmm ok, ill look into that for sure.
I was told to tey and keep him on the pellet diet because it has all the neutrienta required per pellet.
Is this fact?
Or is a seed siet better for him?

Also ive tried to look at how to make gloop and i havent really found any directions that are clear to be honest :(

One fruit one vege and some seads? Cooked uncooked? Warm or cold?
Anything else?

So i made my first mash for my new senegal, wanted to know what you guys may think of the first attempt.
I used the following all steamed to make it nice and mashable.

Quinao, red peppers, zhuchini, carrots, sweet potato, ginger root, brocolli, cayen pepper spice (a timy bit), jalepeno peppers, parsley, dill weed,
And a little bit of orrange juice squeezed from an orange.

Id love to know what you guys think.

A really simple gloop can be made using Kashi 7 grain pilaf, and an equal amount of frozen mixed vegetables and a small can of white beans. You would cook the pilaf according to the directions on the box only reduce the cooking time by 1/4, Drain and add the thawed veggies and rinse the white beans very well to remove the salt and drain them and mix them with the grains and veggies. This is a simple gloop.

Well, the thing with the one you made is that you put a lot of different flavorings in there instead of choosing one for the day. Carrots, sweet potatoes, broccoli and peppers are good but the peppers and the carrots need to be organic and I never feed parsley to my birds (it has the highest level of oxalates of all the veggies out there). Try adding other grains and some corn, some sweet peas, some kale and using a single spice or flavoring each day so as to keep the interest in the food.

I would not throw out what you made but I would add some cooked whole grains to it to provide better nutrition for the bird.
