New diet = aggressive senegal?

Postby NathanDesnoyers » Tue Jul 21, 2015 9:27 am

So before the hate starts i would like to first explqin why i did this.
Firstly i am new to the parrot owning world.
Ive had my 1.5 yr old senegal for just short of 3 weeks now
Hes become very nice with me although t first he was very aggressive probably due to the lack of trust and stressful move to a new home.

Never the less hes become very comfortable in my hands and on my shoulders, even takes showers with me.

But i startes noticing that he was NOT EATING VERY MUCH. had him on a pellet diet with some fresh fruit and veggies daily.
So i decided hey maybe hell preffer seeds and nuts. So i found a nice blend of seeds, nuts AND pellets at the pet store.

Hes been eating wuite a bit for 2 days now but has also become verry nippy and horny with my hand. He was quite horny before but i stopped for about a week.
But now its back abd hes getting pretty rude while on my fingers.
Could it ve the food?

Well, high protein = sexual hormones = aggression but I doubt it happened in a few days. Most likely, it's that the honeymoon period is over (parrots take months and months, sometimes up to a couple of years to feel 100% at home). But whether the food is the culprit or not, you can't free-feed seeds, nuts, pellets or any other source of high protein regardless of how much he likes them or how well he eats them. It's very unhealthy for them as well as completely unnatural.
