I'm really sorry to hear of the death of your beautiful bird.

When it comes to rescuing though, I think I'd personally look on preloved, it's not a charity and I'd ignore the ones selling babies, but there are alot of ads on there by people who for whatever reason can't cope with their bird anymore/aren't looking after it properly. Mine were gotten from there, the owners were seperating and getting rid of birds from their collection, mine were being kept in a pathetic dark shed, I've never regretted getting them.

Thanks jaydeparrot. I still can't believe she is gone. It's still too quiet, even her wings beating was noisy. I miss her landing on my head, she would only ever land there or on the sofa behind me.

Funny you should say but I am looking at rehomes rather than rescues now. The whole rescue thing would take too long and I feel ollie needs sooner rather than later. I've sent off a few enquiries for GCCs today, I'm also going to place a wanted ad too. I saw a lovely pair of tiels but I would be doing that for me more than for ollie, I haven't ever not had a tiel since I started giving a home to these feathered creatures :(

Well, go for both, the pair of tiels AND a GCC! Birds would be lucky to have you as their keeper, Marie... so many birds and so very few good homes out there.

Oh I do wish so much. I reckon I could twist my boyfriends arm. On the other hand we have to be cautious of our neighbours too, one noise report and our permission to have pets will be revoked. We were planning on getting harlie and ollie a mate anyway but had hopes of living in our own place soon but my hopes were ambitious and I'm not sure how much longer we need to be here. :( I'm torn.

They are much more quiet when they are not alone. They do not call out as much. They sort of chatter between themselves. They do sing more often but I can't imagine anyone complaining about a sweet song.

I am so sorry for your loss, Marie. I'm glad her life crossed paths with yours, you gave her the best she could ask for. Your way of grieving isn't weird, we all have our own connections and thoughts.

And I'm going to put in my two cents and tell you to take it one bird at a time. Taking the risk of raising the noise level and getting a complaint would put you in a difficult position, and you're still grieving. New birds are always a shock (to me, at least) because you realize you're starting from even before square zero and they are nothing like your other birds.

Thank you. I'm glad our paths collided too. I'm so upset still, I feel guilty for my others in a way because whist I was upset about them I don't recall being this upset. I want to update her progress thread but it keeps sending me into tears. :(

There doesn't seem to be too many adult GCCS needing homes. The few I have found the adverts are months old or for babies.
I can't stop thinking about those two tiels, I dreamt about them last night (I also dreamt I got shot sooo anyway. ...) I am so upset about that now too!

Don't be concerned about feeling differently about this one, for one thing you have grown and secondly you may love and care for anyone, be it human, bird, dog or whomever but you do this individually and so the care and love that you have will always be just that much different. It is not a thing of caring or loving them less or more, it is the difference in the place they hold in your heart and mind.
Incidently, I believe that you dreamed of getting shot due to your habit of judging yourself unfairly and too harshly, and this dream was you trying to tell you this.

Tiels in bonded pairs do not call loud at all and then only during breeding season. The hen doesn't make a single peep and the male might sing once or twice during the day, (but, again, not loud at all because there is no need, they already got the wife so there is no need to 'advertise') and nothing else. Same thing with GCCs, lone ones will call and call and call unless they are on you but give them another little bird for company and you'll hardly hear a peep out of them. Get the pair!
