Baytril is not really that effective once a day (birds metabolism is so high the effect would have disappeared by the next dose). I am very surprised that your vet told you to do it every 24 hours... I've never heard of that before (see: http://irishwildlifematters.ie/animals/bird-drugs.html - and http://www.melbournebirdvet.com/baytril ... ality.aspx). But, in any case, it's easy to adjust, you just give him half the dosage twice a day.

It's good that the break is healing but you won't know if he has retained full usage of the leg/foot until the splint is taken out.

Thanks for the heads-up, Wolf. Parjarita, it's probably because of how small the dosage is. We're doing one unit of the insulin syringe for the baytril, it's essentially impossible to halve that.

I did call about adjusting the timing and they said the same thing about the hours, so now he is receiving both medications at 9 pm.

He almost managed to get his cone off today so I held him after we took it off and distracted him from the splint while my dad put some more medical tape on the neck area to prevent discomfort and we put it back on. He nipped me at first when I stopped him from chewing on the splint, but relaxed and closed his eyes when I petted the area around his neck where the cone had been.

I can't believe it hasn't even been one week yet. Feels like a month.

No, the dosage has nothing to do with it because all they have to do is compound the medicine. It's done all the time with birds or we would not be able to medicate a bird as small as a canary or a tiny finch.

Very frustrated right now. Drove out to vet's office only to find out we'd been scheduled for a canine appointment (instead of conure) and the avian vet had only worked that morning. Rescheduled for Thursday. He's doing well, but I'm just displeased about stressing him out unnecessarily and potentially exposing him to illness in the waiting room pointlessly. :(

I would be very upset, too. I would not have minded much if it had happened to me with a dog but a bird or a cat? Oh, yes.

Just gave him the last of the metacam, which means no dosage tomorrow morning. I had told the receptionist that I was afraid of this happening, but she had nothing to offer me. Unfortunately the appointment isn't until early evening tomorrow. Will update you all afterwards, if there's time.

Off-topoc, but if you could send positive thoughts/prayers the way of a friend's cat, it would be appreciated. He was rescued off of the road (literally, picked up directly off of it) a year or two ago, and hasn't been eating or drinking and is obviously in pain. He's also headed back to the vet tomorrow.

Oh, poor thing! In my personal experience, cats mostly stop eating when they have a bad abscess in the mouth or cancer. The first is easily solved but, by the time they stop eating with cancer, it's usually too late...

Don't worry about the metacam, he no longer needs it.

Vet gave friend's cat a type of food which cats are more partial to and he began eating again immediately. It seems he'll be alright, thankfully.

The tech was so enamored with Fajr that she was shocked when Fajr suddenly became angry and tried to bite her- she'd been so busy being excited over him that she didn't realize the vet had pinched Fajr to make sure his leg was healing properly.

He doesn't have as much of a grip with his leg as he originally did, but he is able to move his foot and slightly grasp things. Vet said he seems to be healing properly and scheduled his xray for next week.

Lowered the dosage of medication, but he will be on both for another week.

He behaved very well, all things considered. Did try to fly away when they attempted to weigh him- came in at 80 g with the splint and the cone. Weighed 65g at the emergency center.
