Soybean oil

Postby Wolf » Wed Aug 05, 2015 4:06 am

Although I have constantly said that soy and soy products are not good, the results of this study surprised even me, but only because of the reason given. I must also be honest and say that they used mice in this study and not parrots. So take a look and see what you think.

For years we have been told that soybeans were the "fix all" of health including helping women through menopause. I had just gotten to the point that I was using frozen soy bean as a snack. It was the only "healthy" snack that Aunt Betty would eat. I hate throwing food away but what do I do with all the bags of frozen soy beans in my freezer?

Actually, Liz, I have no idea. I have never like soy in any form and so I have always stayed away from it. Pretty darn good for an older hippie type country boy, I think. Do you have a pea shooter and someone you don't like nearby? LOL

I'm not surprised and I think the more independent research is done on soy and its products (all the initial super positive research was done by soy producers), the more they will find out that, in reality, is not good. And see how fructose did not make them fat? I've been arguing about the "don't feed your birds too many fruits or you will make them fat" for years and years... (darn, I love it when I am right! )

Only you could come up with that. I'll bet it was your first though when reading my post.

I guess I'll start a mulch pile. Correction, I don't pile. Instead I use an old garbage can and put a hole in the bottom for drainage. That way I can drag the can to where I need it. I am working on a way to access the bottom of the can material that has already decomposed.

Well, you are supposed to 'turn' the compost regularly (it has to do with heat pockets and oxygenation and what not) so, eventually, it's all even and usable as dirt and not just the bottom of it.

I use an old large trash can with a slit in the bottom big enough for a shovel so I am able to use the oldest first. I put in any organic and add some hydrated lime now and then to hold down the smell and help it decay without a lid on it. Then I can just wheel the compost to where I need to use it.

I don't see the need of giving oil to our fids. They get enough fats from the seeds and nuts.

I agree. The only oil my birds get is, once in a while, a bit of extra virgin olive oil drizzled over baked potatoes.
