Beet greens ?

Postby Kakariki » Thu Aug 13, 2015 4:23 pm

I have looked at a variety of lists of foods safe for birds before joining this forum. One thing I have no knowledge of is beets and the beet greens. We only have beets very occasionally but I wondered if it was ok to share them with my flock.

I think that beets and their greens should be alright in small amounts. Their color suggests to me that they may be a major supply of iron and you do need some iron but not too much.

Beets are good (both raw and cooked but a bit better when cooked) but beet greens are a no-no, too high in oxalic acid!
