EMERGENCY CRACKED BEAK AFRICAN GREY

I was teaching Tiko to step up on a perch instead of using my hand because I was afraid of being bitten and she flew and cracked her beak the tip off it and it started bleeding she stepped up on my hand and I put her on her stand.Will she be ok I never knew theres blood inside the beak.Is there anything I should do for her.

I would take her to the vet to make sure that the damage is only at the tip. There could easily be a crack running up the length of the beak that can't be seen by the naked eye. If there is such a crack then it is possible that her beak will always be cracked which will keep her from eating hard food or possibly interfere with her cracking nuts.

Thats what my mam said she thinks its cracked right up.What will the vet do if we cant afford it right now because school and stuff.

I don't know, but some of them will take payments, it doesn't hurt to ask.

If there is a long crack it can be super glued.
If the vet charges a lot just give him the available money and he will have to charge the rest.
I keep one charge card empty for emergencies.

Last night she started eating and talking again there dosent seem to be a crack but she was still using her nails to try get something from underneath her beak maybe dried blood.

She still needs to be seeing by a vet because an XRay is needed (the beak grows from bone so you need to make sure the crack did not affect the jaw bone). And, if there is blood, she needs an antibiotic for infection prevention (I would also ask for a pain killer). PLUS, there has to be something else going on because beaks don't crack just because they get bumped. For a beak to crack, there has to be A LOT of force applied to it (the beaks are designed to chew wood and open nuts, and have the capacity to exert tons of pressure without breaking - they can actually crack bones open!). It could be malnutrition or a metabolic imbalance.

In the meantime, please stop handling her. She is not ready for you.
