Can a Mynah make a sennie ill?

Postby JaydeParrot » Sun Oct 11, 2015 5:27 pm

Basically I've been given an unwanted mynah from a bird show (sale) and am concerned on the effect it could have on my sennies.

I have some friends I'll give it to in a few days but for now I am concerned that the mynah could make my sennies ill, it looks in good shape, doesn't seem to have bugs, seems young, energetic and all it's feathers are finishing a moult. I'm keeping it in a different room to my sennies but am still worried that something like pbfd could pass to them- I have no idea where in the show the bird came from. Is there anything it could give my birds and if so what are the best precautions to take?

Thanks.

It's a bank mynah if that's any help.

We quarantine incoming birds for a month before letting them near the others. Please move the Mynah to another room and wash your hands after touching it or it's surroundings.

Yes. The new bird can make your bird sick.

Yes, strict quarantine will do the trick -part of it is never using anything you used with the Mynah with the other birds (you know, things like bowls, dishes, toys, perches, etc) without disinfecting it thoroughly first (using Clorox or Lysol).
