home made treats

Postby oknuma » Thu Mar 25, 2010 7:14 pm

Does anybody feed home made treats on a regular basis?

I make my own-
birdie salad
home made nutriberries (a pretty rare treat, max of one a week )
corn pockets
scrambled egg served in egg shell
home grown sprouts
seed bells ( a very rare treat)
fruit ice blocks in summer
birdie breads of heaps of variety

I am always on the look out for more ideas as well, so does anyone else make their own?

Well most of the food that I give Sheldon, besides his nectar powder, I make.

I make:
- fruit salad
- vegetable salad
- boiled egg with fruit- which he loves =]
- Apple pure
- mashed potato
- mushed banana with peas XD

Hmm I should try the bread idea, do you think it would work if I used nectar Sheldon's powder and water to make sweet bread?

i believe you would other items in there as well.
I am pretty sure that a friend and lorikeet breeder makes birdie bread for her lot
I will double check but I believe she uses their powder/water/fruit juice and of course cornmeal flour and baking powder with fresh fruits as well. let me get back to you on it?

I make the following for Lucy and Jessie:

- Dry mix (includes grains, dried fruits, raisins, etc - I get everything from the local health bulk store so I can control what is mixed in their food)
- sprouted beans (just started last week and suprisingly they both seem to like them)
- veggie/fruit salad

I still give them pellet food as well, but I think they are so spoiled with all the other goodies, I don't think they eat very much of the pellet food anymore.
