Treat ideas for Lorikeets?

Postby issy » Thu Mar 25, 2010 8:41 pm

Hello, i just wanted to ask if anyone had any ideas on some treats that i could give to Sheldon while training.

I usually give him a mixture of (diced) apple, grapes, melon & banana. Or I mix a little honey with warm water.

It looks really easy to find treats for other birds because they can eat seeds and nuts. XD

they there! when i owned my now late rainbow lorikeet (bless him) for training i used to use plain human foods like crushed bits of plain biscuits and rice crackers and if you have a bottle brush tree you can pick the red flowers off with the nectar and use them (by boy loved them!) i used the bottle brush the most as in the wild its one of there natural foods and they will literary do anything for it

hope i was help xxx

That's for the ideas =D

Only problem with me using bottle brush or other native Australian flower is that I have lot's of those trees planed around my house and he gets too much them through out the day XD

I will buy some plain crackers and try them out with Sheldon. =D

I've also noticed that he likes certain treats one day and does not like them the next XD

He loves the plain crackers =D

Now I'm using them during training as well as honey diluted with water.

Sounds like you have found your answer - i just wanted to say im really glad you give your keet native plants!
parrots arent mere ornaments, and they're hardly "just a pet" they are intelligent and emotional creatures who want our companionship. As a bird owner, its a pleasure to make my parrots lives as happy, enriched and healthy as possible
