Peppermint oil

Wasn't sure what section to post this is so if it's in the wrong place please feel to move it to its correct place.
As we all know parrots are messy sods and my lot are no exception and occasionally we get mice more so in the aviary as its out doors I will say the aviary floor is brushed down every 2 days and deep cleaned with disinfectant weekly.
Ive been using ultra sonic plug in deterrent as a trial but as confirmed these are useless but I have read that peppermint oil is a good natural way of deterring mice as they detest the smell of it.
We all know aerosols, air fresheners, scented candles are lethal around birds due to their delicate respiratory system but was wondering wether peppermint oil was ok to use around the bird cages.
I would rather control mice naturally than with poison and traps thus reducing the risk to the birds

This is a good question and I don't know the answer to it. I would be cautious with it due to it being so aromatic, but this is just personal thought about it. I will research more on it when I get the time to do so.
Something comes to mind, however, as it would be a natural deterrent that may or may not work. You have snakes and may be able to use the discarded skins in your aviary to discourage mice and rats. Of course the fresher the skins are the better they might work.

Good point raised with the skins but I don't keep snakes at home anymore but to be honest there isn't really a smell from the skin not sure if you've ever handled a shed skin but it's very paper like but good idea though

Yes, I have had snakes before and know all about the skins, I also know that sometimes they will not deter rats and mice and it may backfire and even attract them. Our sense of smell is very weak in comparison to a rat or mouse which is why I suggested it. Thanks for the link, I will check it out when I can.
