In my personal experience, if the 'damage' a bad diet has done is not too bad (for too many years), it takes two years for them to 'come back' to a good nutritional level so don't get impatient because it will take time. For one thing, they only molt half their plumage every year so you would still need two years to replace it.

If you look in this same section, you will find different recipes for gloop (there is the easy one made with Kashi 7 whole grains pilaf, the medium made with ingredients from a single supermarket and the one I make which is all organic and a tiny bit more complicated -and I am going to be changing this recipe soon as I am planning on replacing all the wheat in it with two kinds of ancient grains -I will post about it and whether the birds liked it or not when I do). There are also recipes for a raw food diet, birdy breads (very good way of getting better nutrition into a bird that has been eating seeds for a long time and still doesn't know to eat healthier), treats, etc. But for them to eat fruits and veggies, the best way is to eat with them early in the morning when they are hungriest and more willing to try new things - besides, parrots are like monkeys: parrot see, parrot does and they always want what we are eating so it really works. I always say that raw greenbeans are the hardest thing for me to eat but one does all kinds of sacrifices for them  Thankfully for me, mine all eat well now so I only eat the daily fruits these days...

I rinse the grains first under the faucet with warm water, then put much more water in the pot than the grains will need to cook and drain the extra (I leave the grains in the colander for a while after I shake it in different directions so as to get as much water out as possible). Rinsing before hand, cooking rice in lots of water and draining it after helps to reduce the arsenic found in it.

Oh also... I didnt want to start a whole new thread for this but can parrots have Alfalfa greens. I know they can have the sprouts. But I have grown Alfalfa in the garden because it is really really really good for my bearded dragons. It is also good to reverse tooth decay.
I also had Endive for the lizards wich I found online that it was ok to give Tilly, but cou
d find nothing for alfalfa greens. Thankyou everyone :)

I do give mine endives -only not too often because they are so expensive. I have no access to alfalfa greens but I think that, even if I did, I would not give it to my parrots. I have used the capsules in the initial treatment of parrots with high uric acid but sparingly and for a short period of time. Alfalfa is VERY nutritious but it's also quite high in protein (something that always concerns me with parrots) and, like soy (it's a legume, also), it has estrogenic side effects (something that concerns me, too).
