Yep it sounds like it. The stuff I mix up is kind of somewhere between a gloop and a chop, depending on what I have around, because I do use a small amount of cooked from time to time. My birds like bigger pieces, they can hold in a talon, my chops are done by hand, and most vegetables are not chopped at all. So I dont know what word you would use for my mixes.

Like many other terms that are used regarding parrots, and it appears to a large degree when discussing foods, and to a large degree what do we call this type of food. There is simply no standardized definition for the terms, such as what is chop. In view of this, perhaps we need to define these terms ourselves and either put the effort in, if we are on other forums and such to get the definition accepted as a standard or modify our working definition in accordance to a more popular or more accepted definition.

As an example only:

Chop :

A form of food for birds, usually parrots, that is characterized by being mostly fresh whole foods that are chopped to reduce the size of the foods to make it easier for the parrot to hold the food in its talons for eating. The size of the chopped foods being determined by the size of the bird. Chop may or may not contain a few cooked foods such as white beans or other foods which must be cooked for the safety of the bird, in limited quantities.

Again this is only put forth as an example of a working definition. There may be a better definition in existence or someone may put forth another more acceptable definition, as this is just basically how I view chop and what it is.

I don't know if you will get people to agree on a common definition for each type... When people first started using produce mixes for the parrots, the terms were pretty standard:
chop was a variety of fresh veggies and fruits finely chopped (not big enough for them to hold because the purpose was to get the parrot to eat stuff it would not normally pick on its own) and used to replace fresh produce on a daily basis (useful for people who had only one or two parrots and would have to waste most of the produce it would need to buy if a variety was wanted - thus the practice of using ice cube trays for it as they would hold individual parrot portions)
mash was the same thing and had the same purpose as chop but it was almost pureed.
gloop was a combination of cooked grains, pulses and frozen veggies to which you would add fresh veggies (I also add naturally dried fruits like figs, raisins, dates, sundried tomatoes, etc) before serving - it was not meant as a replacement for fresh produce

But then people started adding grains and pulses to the chop and the mash went into disuse so the original names meant nothing. But it doesn't really matter what you call it as long as it's healthy for them.

Don't really know, but perhaps the confusion is because it is still changing, but I thought that it might help to have a working definition as people are confused about it and do ask for definitions here and elsewhere.

Back in the early 90's, I'd make my grey something with 7 bean soup mix, rice, hot peppers, and I don't know what else.

I have no idea what we called it. She called it beep beep beep beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep, the sound of the microwave finishing.

That is funny.

We all have our own idea of soft foods and veggies. Rambo and Myrtle eat more veggies if they can pick them up so they get more than just mixed with grain.

I just cut the horses veggies at the same time and add to his grain.

:lol: Yes, that's why I no longer use broccoli pieces but chopped broccoli! Mine would do the same thing. Try using the frozen chopped one instead, the pieces are so fine they end up eating them because they stick to the whole grains -and broccoli is so good for them.

She eats broccoli, but she doesn't like the florets. Last time I made gloop I used the frozen florets because that's all they had in organic. Ocean eats the florets so I didn't think it would matter.
