How to prepare Whole Wheat & Vegetable Pasta

Postby lzver » Fri Mar 26, 2010 12:09 pm

Just wondering if anyone prepares whole wheat & vegetable pasta for their birds? I picked some up today and I'd like to try it this weekend, but just wondering how you prepare and what else do you mix in with it - veggies, beans, etc.

I'm also going to try sprouting my own beans this weekend for the first time.

Thanks,
Laura

You can try cooking them about half the time so they are still somewhat firm or you can try to give them raw. My birds like raw pasta.

I am also going to try to sprout my own seeds and legumes this week. We'll have to compare notes.

with pastas I sometimes steam, sometimes boil and sometimes feed raw . batman will eat it all 3 ways but seems to really love the steamed as i dont over cook and it still has a small amount of crunch to it.

you are going to love sprouting! it is so easy and so rewarding. dont forget you can sprout for your birds and for yourself as well.

I didn't get a chance to try the sprouting this weekend ... but I did make them a pasta/veggie salad. I boiled the pasta for a few minutes and mixed with tons of fresh veggies. Lucy, our red-bellied loves the pasta, but it seems like Jessie could take it or leave it. I guess we can't satisfy them all the time.

I'll try the sprouting this weekend since its a long weekend and we don't have very much planned. I think I'll soak overnight on Thursday night and start sprouting on Friday.

I made a mash yesterday. it contained macaroni pasta, quinoa, amaranth, buckwheat, brown rice, mung beans and green lentils. Then I added lots of minced raw veggies.

All 3 gobbled it down with gusto!

I'll let you know how my two like the sprouted beans.

Just noticed we don't live far from each other skhurley. We live in Guelph, not to far from Kitchener at all.

Just thought I'd post a follow-up. I tried sprouting my own beans this weekend and for someone that doesn't have a green thumb at all, I was very surprised that it worked. I started by soaking the beans in water over night on Thursday night and part of Friday. I then layed them out on a baking sheet and misted them with water every couple of hours and kept them covered with damp clothes. By this morning, a good majority of the beans had began sprouting. I removed the ones that had sprouted really well, washed them off really well and mixed in with their fresh veggies this morning. I was very happy to see both Lucy and Jessie eating them this morning.

I am still sprouting the rest today and by this evening I think most of them will have sprouted. I sprouted enough to last for a few days. It was so easy and because its so nutricious for them, I think I'm going to start doing this every weekend. Plus it's really cheap to do ... I bought about a month's supply from Bulk Barn for about $10.

Now I have to start eating as healthy as my birds ;)

GREAT news
there are so many methods and to be honest none of them have to include store bought sprouting aparatus.

Now you just have to eat some yourself as well :D

I have a bottle of sprouts going every day of the week. about half way through sprouting one then next is going for soaking so its ready to go when the first one is done.

You can make vegetable pasta according Sautee bell pepper, pepper, onion, garlic and tomatoes in one tablespoon olive oil until just soft. Add the cooked pasta and additional tablespoon of oil. Stir for 2 minutes.Pour into serving bowl and sprinkle the cilantro, scallions, and cheese on top of the pasta and veggies.
